PET. We are very sad to say that our loyal and faithful
companion, our Weimaraner dog who we named Lili, was euthanized on 12 March
2008 at 1030. When she was younger, she had contracted Lyme's disease,
a horrible disease that cripples with arthritis and she just was suffering.
Lili was a very fine dog; quick to engage wild life in the chase and eager
to please her master and mistress. In the last two years of Joe's retirement,
she was constantly by his side wherever he went. And when Rosemary was
with Joe, Lili was quick to relinquish her seat in Joe's truck to Rosemary.
At almost 13 years, she had a very good life and she gave us a very good

SOCIAL LIFE. Okay, let's see… let me tell you about what's
going on in our world…
APRIL 2007: A RENDEZ-VOUS IN ROME WITH OUR EUROPEAN FRIENDS. This was a three-day visit together beginning Friday 21 April and ending on Sunday. Rosemary and I stayed for the rest of the week to see some of the sights that we had always wanted to see but never before had the time. Watch the presentation below.
A two-day stay on Narraganset Bay in Rhode Island with our friends, the Zimmers and their family. Here is a photo of a wild hibiscus that Rosemary and I saw on the beach closeby... absolutely spectacular! Very relaxing time with our good friends and good for the soul...
A week in BERLIN, GERMANY... what a delight! Speaking of Marlena Deitrich, there is a fine restaurant in Berlin (former East Berlin) called Reinhard's, that is absolutely superb... the setting inside is 1930's/40's with photos of the personalities of that time. You can almost hear Marlena Deitrich singing or feel that she will walk in at any time. And speaking of walking in, while at the Reinhard's restaurant on our last night in Berlin, in walked former German Chancellor Helmut Kohl with Mrs. Kohl and an aide for dinner. They were given a table next to our table... or perhaps we were given a table next to Mr. Kohl's table?... in any event, it was interesting...
On the recommendation of our good friends in Frankfurt, Germany, Jürgen and Elke, we took the train to BAMBERG for a weekend during our Christmas holiday where we discovered some great American jazz... we went close to 4,000 miles to listen to one of the very best American jazz bands... what a blast! Bamberg was a delight... few tourists and the town is very old and very picturesque. Their Krismarkt and glüwine warmed the cockles of our hearts!
Life on Maximillian Strasse in MUNICH (Rosemary organized this trip…). Ever seen a Glockenspiel?
NOVA SCOTIA and a wild ride aboard the 'Cat' (to discover my Acadian roots)… Joe rediscovered his North American roots here. We visited the sites where the progenitors of the North American TERRIOT family arrived in 1632 to begin their NEW WORLD. For some of the photos of that visit, checkout the flagship website of the Theriault family in North America at: http://www.terriau.org/acadie.htm
And... a few 2-3 week tours of FRANCE AND ITALY... our next one is planned for Italy and the Greek Isles...
And always enjoyable... our trips back home to the ST-JOHN VALLEY in Northern Maine and New Brunswick...
most recently, our Christmas Party at home for our local friends where the piano and dancing was hot... Rosemary's desserts were tops as were the chestnuts which we roasted by the fireside... but most enjoyable were the friends and the Christmas spirit...
and, we continue to be honored with the visit of some of our friends from other parts of the world including our German friends from Frankfurt and Munich (and other parts of Bavaria) and others from Spain, Denmark and the Netherlands (the home-made music and frivolities of course usually abound)... here are a few photos! The most recent visit was Ferdinand, our young Dutch friend who Rosemary and I had last seen at a conference in Berlin last year.
Since then, we have enjoyed a very pleasant visit by one of our young German friends, Kirsten with her parents who were visiting the US and most recently, we were again honored with a visit by our friend Jürgen and his colleagues Kevin, Eugene and Wilfred who were joined by Kirsten.
and there was that GREAT PAËLLA
PARTY in the summer of 2003 in the German countryside! Yes,
in Germany... put on by Spaniards, but also Germans and a few Americans.
Check it out...
remodel the living room… a little Federal period woodwork. (COMPLETE!!) Here's a sample of the architectural detail work) Also, the photos for the Munich party show the completed finish. Not bad for an engineer, huh?
digitizing, documenting and archiving those most important and old photos from my mother and father's family album and others that I receive from relatives... we are making electronic copies of the photos and of our archive database available to members of our family so that the younger generations may know their ancestors... I'm afraid that this project will be IN PROGRESS for a long time.
and then of course, there's always Theriault genealogy and family history
which will also be IN PROGRESS for a good while… have you checked
out our TERRIOT
ACADIAN FAMILY websites? (The medieval
forms of the Theriault family name are TERRIAU and TERRIOT.) Other contemporary
forms of the family name are Thériault, Thérriault, Theriot
(Louisiana), Thérriot (France)... Here, take a peek, you might learn
something... we have two other websites now:
And some time later, I'll be adding the Dubé family, my maternal family as well… we can't ignore those wild Québecois!
