Plainville
High School
BLUE
DEVILS
Class
of '58...
Welcome to your
website!
In June 1958, the Plainville
High School graduating Seniors set their sights on the world... There we
were, this special group of 100 teens... part of the generation that escorted
rock 'n roll into western culture and now poised to make important contributions
to our country and our society. We were born in 1940 during World War II
and raised by the Greatest Generation while we listened on our radios to
swing music by the era's big bands and 'boogie-woogie' by jazz piano players.
As we progressed into high school, we heard the opening strains of rock
n' roll which was propelled by the boogie-woogie blues rhythm.
 While
we set out to make our mark, we have not taken ourselves too seriously.
We did the parties, the Sophomore Hop, the Junior Prom, the Senior Ball...
and uncountable other 'romps' that we all recall today with a smile on
our faces. We all knew each other and enjoyed each other. The character
of the class was 'squeaky clean' as was typical of the 50's but with a
'respectably wild' streak. Although we had learned to abide by the firm
discipline of our loving parents and dedicated teachers, we still knew
how to have fun.
From these 100 teens, came
first and foremost: a top notch Class B football team, super basketball
and baseball teams, field and track athletes, a rock 'n roll band, the
Royal R's... outstanding choral singers, a few thespians, artists, scientists,
engineers, clergymen and women, nurses, and yes, at least one policeman,
several educators and teachers, successful business men and women, many
tradesmen and women and many other occupations and talents. True to those
times, patriotism continued to run strong. Twenty-three of the 100 in the
class went on to help defend our country as officers and enlisted men through
the Cold War period.
Sadly,
we have already lost some of our classmates... our sweethearts... our buddies.
We sorely miss them today. This website is dedicated to their memory...
those few who today continue as unique and shining facets of the character
of our class.
A true testimony to this character
are classmates like Barbara DiNardo Dahlgren , Bob Whelan, Ginny Hill Noel,
Jan Fanciullo Kane, Bruce Atwood, Verna Daigle Gregory and others who bring
us together from time to time. Let's use this website to help them reach
the rest of us who are scattered across America and other parts of the
world. Send me your ideas for additions or improvements to the site. I'm
your host, J. Ralph Theriault (JRT).... You may get my attention by left-clicking
this e-mail button...
For
now, if you have not already contacted us, please let us know that you're
OK by using the e-mail button above. If you want to touch base with some
of the classmates, get their address from the 'Let's Keep in Touch' section.
By the way, if you know a classmate who does not have access to the Internet,
please offer to relay their information for them. So, let's see how many
of our classmates we can bring together in this 'virtual reunion'. As you
can see in the chart below.. we're staying 'IN TOUCH'...
So, come on guys... our generation
is leading the way in this 'connected society', let's get connected!! |
