IN MEMORIAM

ALAN B. COUCH
1940 - 10 June 1962

We will use this section to begin putting together at least a short biography for our friend, Alan. We welcome inputs from the class on the details of his biography.

Alan attended the Broad Street School in Plainville. We have a photo of him in Mrs. Egan's 6th grade class,

We have a photo of Alan (compliments of Janice Fanciullo Cardany... thanks for thinking of us, Jan)  taken during his early high school years.

The following articles published in the Hartford Courant report the circumstances surrounding Alan's accidental death in 1962. The notations in brackets were added by the Plainville High School Class of 1958.

11 Jun 1962.  A Plainville man, Alan B. Couch, 22 of 64 Forestville Ave., died instantly [on 10 June] when he was thrown from a car driven by John C. Rogers of 98 Rogers Rd., Forestville, about 9:20 p.m. in North Madison.

Rogers, also thrown from the car, was taken to Middlesex Memorial Hospital, Middletown, where he was reported in good condition.

State Police said the car was northbound on Rt. 79 when it approached a traffic rotary at the intersection of Rts. 79 and 80 in North Madison center. The light sports car hit a triangular section of the rotary approach, went out of control and flipped end over end, landing on its wheels.

24 Jul 1962.  ...Rogers and Couch were returning from Hammonasset State Park several weeks ago when the car Rogers was driving was involved in an accident at Rts. 79 and 80 in Madison. Couch was killed instantly and Rogers was injured.
