Jim Grant goes to Sea... 10 November 1958. The caption under this 11 December Plainville News photo read as follows: "James D. Grant of 28 Stillwell Drive, recent became the 15,000th man to be processed at the Armed Forces Examining Station at New Haven during 1958. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Grant, he enlisted in the Navy for four years. He was graduated from Plainville High School. Man at the right is Staff Sergeant Theodore W. Kinnaird, Chief Clerk at the Examining Station."

Jim went on to qualify for submarine duty. Shown above is a photo of a 'Guppy' class sub taken at the Submarine Base in New London, Connecticut. The Submarine insignia is shown at the top of the photo.
