The Plainville High School Blue Devils Graduating Class of 1958...

(Note: This is a high resolution scan of the original photo. Allow a minute to download if your Internet connection is by phone.. You may also download it to save as your own copy by bringing the cursor on the photo and doing "RIGHT CLICK > Save Image/Picture As".   In addition to all of this, you may left click on the photo to view the photo in zoom while you listen to the last 90 seconds of Sir Edward Elgar's 'POMP AND CIRCUMSTANCE' performed by the Chicago Philharmonic Orchestra. Some would say that they're almost as good as the Plainville High School Band. Remember the tune as we marched down the aisle of that beautiful new auditorium?)

This was the moment when we launched the rest of our lives... With all caps and tassles in perfect alignment, it's hard to believe that this was the morning after Senior Class Night.

This was actually a graduation practice and photo session early on the morning of Tuesday, 17 June 1958. The night before, we had celebrated Class Night... an evening which started with a semi-formal affair, the Senior Class Night banquet and which was followed by some not so formal all-night partying and frivolities. Some of us were therefore not able to make this photo shoot.

Shall we name them? Why not? They were: Anderson, Coppola, Czellecz, Fox, Grizzel, Hurd, Pasniewski, Perrotti, Ripley**, Sadlowski, Witzke, and Zdunczyk. The Senior Ball as you remember took place the preceding Friday, 13 June. (Was anybody there Tuesday morning to see how Mr. Burleigh got his Volkswagen moved away from the high school front entrance doors?) On Wednesday, 18 June... Graduation Day, we made the news!!  Left click on the newsclip at right and read all about it.

*Until we did a careful accounting of each classmate, we had based the number of students in our class on the yearbook photos of which there are 99. In this graduation photo, Carolyn Lamprecht pops up as the 100th student because for some reason, her photo is not in the yearbook. So, our class size is an even and well-rounded 100 large.

**Actually, we have it from Ralph Noel (who confirmed it with Boyde Ripley himself), that Boyde was there physically but unfortunately not in spirit... he was in the prone position passed out behind the stage bleachers to the center right not far from Ralph Noel. Notice how everyone in the back row on the right just filled in. There isn't even a hint that someone had just 'fallen out of ranks'. What a team!. Well, Boyde, let history record that you had the good intentions and fortitude to give it a good try...
