Those Grand and Beautiful Class Dances...

The Senior Ball...

The date was Friday, 13 June 1958. The weather was balmy... perfect for a June  ball. The guys put on their tuxedos or white dinner jackets decked out with carnation boutinieres.  The ladies donned their gowns

complemented by corsages presented to them by their dates and all went to the ball. As noted by the ladies'fans and Japanese table decorations, the theme was 'Sayonara'... good bye. This theme was inspired by the year's very popular film of the same name starring Marlon Brando.
Double dating at the Senior Ball...

Ralph Mele (Class of '59) and Kenlyn Westergren; Ralph Theriault and Barbara DiNardo.

Below are Ralph Noel & Kay Boyle (in foreground at left); Boyde Ripley & Gerry ? (in foreground at right)... Bob Whelan walking in the background.

Way in the back wearing a maroon tux (according to Ginny) is Alan Couch who is standing in front of George Nicholas. George is wearing a red and black plaid tux. We still have not identified the tall guy in the white dinner jacket standing to the right of them.

Any other Senior Ball photos?... Yes, of course! Ginny came through with a gem of a set. Here they are:

Orchids in the Moonlight!

Spring 1957. At right, our Junior Prom Queen & attendants (Left to right:: Jane Hodlin; Linda Comas; Judy Trijonis; last year's Queen Karen Oscarson crowning Judy; Ginny Hill; and Patty Pasnewski.. Jane Hodlin Owen, who sent us this photo from her collection, says that the Junior Prom "...was held in our beautifully decorated Gym. Judy had chaired the Decorating Committee, the rest of us were attendants.

"During those years," Jane continued, "...it was always such a treat at our P.H.S. dances to walk into the gym or cafeteria (wherever they were held) and see them transformed into the wonderful "theme of the night" and enjoy the evening dancing! The Orchids in the Moonlight! are right behind Judy Trijonis! She was so pretty and had such beautiful hair!"

In a note later, Ginny added "Judy was not only stunning that evening, she wore the most beautiful gown on the dance floor."

Rock 'n roll is here to stay!! (Brought to you by the Blue Devils Class of 1958)

Rock 'n roll is here to stay!!

Can you believe this great photo? WOW! These are obviously our Royal R's... from left to right: Gerry Pavano, Ron DiNardo, Jimmy Rudolph and Joe Dellaquila. We don't have a date for the photo... perhaps Joe can send that in to us.

We received a note from Ginny a few days ago with a note from Joe Dellaquila attached. Here is what Joe had to say about this super photo (click on the photo to zoom):

"The name of the drummer is Ron DiNardo. He lived in E.Htfd and got to know him when I did a show at Buckley High. Ron Pavano sat in as drummer the first month we were starting the group along with a cousin of mine who played the sax.

Shortly after, the word got out that I was serious about forming a real group, and I started getting calls from guys that really knew how to play and read music. That's when Jimmy R. and Jerry  P. came on board. and soon after, Ron DiNardo.
I still can't believe to this day how many jobs, radio and TV, weddings, Bar and Bat mitzhvas, school dances, nightclubs and county fairs, even playing as a warm-up act for Gene Vincent (Be Bop a Lu La fame) and for 4 weeks traveling with Aunt Jemima as her warm-up. ... We  met so many people that were good to us and we had such good times. Of course it was also hard work and was very disappointing when auditioning for record companies and not getting a recording contract. I really thought that when we were chosen to be on the Ted Mack Show and we did so well that we  would have been picked up. Oh well ,the Big Man upstairs had other plans for me. I can't complain . It's been a good life!!"

A great life indeed, Joe. Thanks for the photo. It brings back that special feel of the late 50's!
